Enhancing South Access, Landscaping and Cyclist-pedestrian and sustainable connection of the “El Molinar” (cultural Heritage Site)

PROJECT: Schematic Design, Concept Design, Detail Design, Site Management, Safe and Safety Management
YEAR: 2024-2025 – Construction on progress
LOCATION: Alcoi, Alicante, Spain
TYPOLOGY: Urban planning, Civil Works, Urban Utilities
CLIENT: Alcoi Cityhall
DESIGN: GmasP Engineering & Architecture
The project led by GmásP primarily aims to transform and enhance comprehensive accessibility—for pedestrians, cyclists, and vehicles—to one of the most iconic industrial sites in the Valencian Community: the “El Molinar” Historic-Artistic Site, a designated Asset of Cultural Interest (BIC).
Landscape and Heritage Integration
This is a landscape and heritage integration project designed to showcase the site’s value through improved accessibility. It allows the citizens of Alcoy and visitors alike to discover, appreciate, and enjoy this unique environment and the Valencian industrial heritage.
Technical specifications
The 700-meter-long project expands the existing read platform, creating a pedestrian path and a bike lane on both sides.
Vehicular access is being standardized by improving the longitudinal profile and eliminating the elevation changes found in the original layout.
A Transformative Proposal
GmásP’s proposal transforms the routes leading to Alcoy’s high-value industrial heritage environment. Furthermore, it provides the city with a South Access point that meets modern urban demands for drivers, pedestrians, and cyclists.
